I got this awesome German Goulash Recipe from my grandmother and her food is always the best! While living in america it helps me a lot to be able to cook the food that tastes like home. The mashed carrots are a great side for babies and toddlers!

 

How to cook the German Goulash Recipe

I got this awesome German Goulash Recipe from my grandmother and her food is always the best. Good recipe for kids and the whole family.

Brown the beef stew meat and add vegetables, liquid and seasoning. Let simmer on low for 1h. You can also use your crock pot for the goulash recipe.

Meanwhile peel potatoes, cut the potatoes and the carrots into chunks and cook them in water until they are soft.

I don’t drain all the water, i leave just a little bit in the pot, mix it with milk and the rest of the ingredients and mash everything.

When the goulash is soft, mix 1/3 cup milk with 4 t cornstarch until there are no clumps and then pour it into the goulash. Let it boil for 1 minute until the gravy thickens.

Ingredients

  • GOULASH
  • 2 lbs beef stew meat
  • 4 Celery stalks
  • 1 carrot
  • 3 cups beef bouillon (3 cups water and 2 bouillon cubes)
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 4 t cornstarch
  • MASHED CARROTS
  • 1 bag carrots (2lbs)
  • 4 potatoes
  • 1 t vegetable stock base (powder)
  • 1/2 t salt
  • pepper
  • milk 1/3 cup

Instructions

  1. GOULASH
  2. Brown meat and add diced vegetables, pour in water/bouillon and let simmer on low for 1 hour. (cook carrots in meantime)
  3. Then mix milk with cornstarch until there are no clumps and add to goulash.
  4. Let cook until thickens a little.
  5. MASHED CARROTS
  6. Peel potatoes and dice them and the carrots. They don't have to be very small (see picture).
  7. Add water in a pot and let them cook until they are soft (about 20 minutes)
  8. Don't drain all the water, leave a little bit in the pot.
  9. Add the rest of ingredients and mash. Add milk slowly and see what texture you like. Add more milk to the puree if you want it to be creamier.
